This book is the outcome of the Third National Seminar on Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Development conducted by the Department of Geography & Resource Management, Mizoram University Aizawl in association with Geography Association of Mizoram (GAM), India between 7-8th November 2019. The department of Geography tries its best to promote sustainable resources management during the last couple of years and the present book is the third publication of the department. The uniqueness of the present publication is its emphasis on the waste management apart from the normal themes under the umbrella of sustainable resource development. The subject of natural resources management is a vast and interdisciplinary field of study that considers the physical, biological, economic and social aspects. It is an emerging issue worldwide due to the mismatch of rapid population growth and continuous depletion of natural resources. Enormous population increases coupled with improving the standard of living to multiply the basic needs of an individual. The so-called luxurious items of yesteryears have become the basic necessity of today, which have further contributed to speedy exploitation of natural resources globally. This unprecedented trend of exploitation and mismanagement poses serious threats to the very survival of human being and its symbiotic relationship with other creatures that demand immediate action to address the problems and to find solutions. To mitigate the problems, which we are facing today, it is imperative to make a wake-up call to people from different walks of life to share ideas and thought. The problems in developing countries, particularly in India, are enormous since India is the second-most populous country, comparatively less educated, economically poorer and more diversified people with a lack of proper management of natural resources and low level of awareness about resource management. Looking at the current trends and practices pertaining to natural resources in the country, we need to take immediate action to improve for judicious utilization of natural resources in all aspects. The book consists of 54 articles, authored by experts and scholars from various sub-fields of resource management. The articles include a wide range of different aspects of natural resource management. Some of the significant components are underground resource management, water resource management, urbanization and its associated resource exploitation activities and suggestion to prevent, landslide occurrences and its mitigation, sustainable agriculture practices, food security, soil management, rainwater harvesting, forest resources management, biodiversity conservation and sustainable way of management, solid waste management, rag pickers and their contribution on waste management, climate change and its associated negative impact and its mitigation. It also includes medicinal plants and overall environmental sustainable resource management. We are fortunate for having all the stakeholders sharing a common platform, exchanging ideas on how to manage the resources for sustainable development including-land use planning, water management, biodiversity conservation, and the future sustainability of industries like agriculture, mining, tourism, fisheries and forestry. We are also lucky to have farmers, social activist, government official and politician as off these stakeholders are the keys for the comprehensive success of natural resources.
