Population explosion has increased the demand of food and fibre from a shrinking agriculture land base. Intensification of agriculture through expansion of irrigation facilities, introduction of high yielding variety and application of increased amount of agro-chemicals have been in progress to cope up with increasing demand and loss due to disease. Increased use of pesticide in agriculture have contaminated different component of environment and pose a serious health hazards to consumers. Therefore, plant disease management strategy should be bio-safe, environmental friendly, ecological compatible and economically sound. More recently scientists are busy to manage the diseases by developing transgenic varieties in addition to regular hybridization. This proceedings volume of the UGC sponsored National Seminar organised by University Department of Botany, LNMU, Darbhanga is a timely effort and should be useful to researchers as well as postgraduate students to solve the problems of plant disease management. The chapters have been contributed by eminent experts in the area of microbiology, microbial biotechnology, plant pathology, plant breeding and genetics.
